Just a short post tonight as we lay in our sleeping bags cowboy camping under a sea of stars. After picking up a resupply box from the Warner Springs post office with the rest of the crowd from the community center, our little hiker train of Proton, XC, Gazelle, X-man, Ace and I set off on a bit of cross-country travel to reconnect with the PCT. It was a little taste of CDT hiking complete with scrambling under a fence and some basic off-trail navigation. To quote XC: "As long as we're together..."
It was another day of pushing on under the beating sun and then hiding from it wherever and whenever possible. Everyone spreads out to find their position of choice. Elevated feet seems to be the popular pose for whatever foot and leg ailments each of us is dealing with to one degree or another.
And just when things feel like they start to hurt a little bit more and your teeth start to grind, you turn a corner and see things like this. Just a little reminiscent of the Sierra stone and sky that inspired the name for this blog.
We're in for the night at quite the strange/interesting "Mike's place" along with all of our pals. An outpost in the middle of nowhere, friends of Mike's cooked up wood-fired pizza for all the hikers who arrived this evening and had coolers of soda and beer. Just the sort of medicine for hiker aches and pains.
And of course this post wouldn't be complete without a gratuitous shot of Emily's pinkie toe blister being peeled off. Makes you wonder what the other blisters look like right?
